Xbox 360 is the second video game console after its predecessor “Xbox” produced by Microsoft. As part of the seventh generation of video game consoles, Xbox 360 competes with Sony’s Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii. The Xbox 360 sale has touched around 53.6 million by the end of March in the year 2011. Xbox360 was officially unveiled on 12th of May in the year 2005 on MTV (music television). The major features of the console are its integrated xbox live service that allows players to play games online and download game demos, arcade games, trailers, TV shows, movies and music along with its Windows media center multimedia capabilities. The console system also offers region specific access to third party media services like Sky Go in the United Kingdom and Netflix and ESPN in the United States. Xbox 360 is manufactured by Flextroincs, Wistron, Celestica and Foxconn. It supports DVD, compact disc or downloaded media files. The central processing unit of console is based on 3.2 gigahertz Power PC tri-core Xenon board.

The storage capacity of the console through detachable hard drives may range up to 20, 60, 120, 250 GB. However, the On-board storage chip for arcade console may range from 64, 256 and 512 MB and budget level consoles consist of 4 GB storage space. The USB storage device may range up to 1 GB to 16 GB. Xbox 360 has an in-built memory of 512 MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz. It supports the video output in composite video 480i, 576i in PAL format and 480i, 576i in S-video format. The VGA display resolution can be accessed at 640 x 480, 848 x 480, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 1024, 1360 x 768, 1680 x 1050, 1440 x 900 and 1920 x 1080. Xbox 360 has 500 MHz ATI Xenos graphics card that offers high class video and picture quality with perfect streaming sound quality. Designed by ATI, Xenos is a custom graphics processing unit (GPU) used in the Xbox 360. It offers connectivity through 2.4 GHz wirless, 3 x USB 2.0, IR receiver and 100 Mbit Ethernet card. Its 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connectivity and TOSLINK S/PDIF audio optical connector are in-built features that allow easy access to digital audio and wireless networking without any external adapters.

xbox 360 was previously available in two configurations, which are “Xbox 360 package” and “Xbox 360 Core”. The xbox360 package was priced at around US $400 and Xbox 360 Core was priced at US $300. The elite package with more features and utilities was launched at US $479, but was discontinued later. These days, xbox360 S which are simply marketed as Xbox 360 consoles are being produced by the company with Xbox 360 250 GB, Xbox 360 4GB and Xbox 360 320 GB versions available in the market. Many wired and wireless controller accessories with faceplates for customization, web cam for video chatting, headsets for chatting, dance mats and Gamercize for exercises comes with the consoles.
